No matter the size of a business, there can be disconnects between vertical levels of organizations. It’s important, as leaders, to bridge these gaps and remove ambiguity. Without solid connections through vertical levels, businesses lack the unity necessary to fully engage strategy and pursue their mission. A ship with a great big sail still needs wind.
Connecting and engaging different vertical levels requires EFFECTIVE communication. Memos on walls and mass emails don’t count. It takes human interaction, gathering feedback, active listening, and leading by example. Know what is encouraging and what is discouraging people—who is in agreement, and who is in disagreement.
